Arakhamiya, Congressman Smith discuss expanding military support for Ukraine
Leader of the Servant of the People parliamentary faction David Arakhamiya discussed the possibility of expanding U.S. military support for Ukraine with U.S. Congressman Adam Smith (Democratic Party).
As the press service of the Servant of the People party informs, the interlocutors discussed political and military cooperation, including the possibility of expanding U.S. military support for Ukraine, attracting financial and technical assistance to reform the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"This will help improve the technical base, armaments, as well as upgrade outdated military equipment," Arakhamiya said.
At the same time, Adam Smith, who chairs the U.S. House Committee on Armed Services, assured of bipartisan support for Ukraine in the military sphere. According to him, this is one of the elements of U.S. assistance in Ukraine's opposition to Russian aggression.
The Congressman stressed the importance of reforms in the defense and law enforcement spheres and welcomed the efforts of the President of Ukraine in the field of combating corruption.
The parties also discussed the potential danger associated with the construction of Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. Arakhamiya stressed that both countries considered this project a threat not only to Ukraine but to Europe as a whole.
"We need to identify possible mechanisms that will prevent Russia from completing the project. U.S. sanctions should be strengthened and a wider range of partners should be involved," he said.
As reported, the construction of Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline running from Russia to Germany was suspended by U.S. sanctions in 2020, but the Russian side resumed works with the consent of the German side.
According to Nord Stream 2 AG data, the pipeline is 95% ready.
Ukraine, the United States, Poland and the Baltic states oppose the construction of the pipeline.
