President commemorates those fallen for Ukraine
On the Day of Defenders and Defendresses of Ukraine, President Zelensky took part in the ceremony of honoring the memory of those fallen for Ukraine.
The event took place at Mykhailivska Square in Kyiv, Ukrinform reports citing the President’s press service.
The President laid flowers at the Wall of Remembrance.
A minute of silence was observed, after which the military band performed the National Anthem.
Soldiers of honor guard performed six-volley salute.
The ceremony was attended by Verkhovna Rada Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk, Minister of Defense Andriy Taran, Head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksiy Danilov, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Valery Zaluzhny, Deputy Head of the President’s Office Roman Mashovets.
Zelensky was shown samples of modern weapons and military equipment.
On October 13, a specialized exhibition "Digital Future of the Army" opened at Mykhailivska Square.
As reported, the Day of Defenders and Defendresses of Ukraine is a public holiday celebrated on October 14. It was officially established on October 14, 2014, by a presidential decree entitled “The Day of Defender of Ukraine”. On July 12, 2021, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine renamed the holiday into the Day of Defenders and Defendresses of Ukraine.
