OSCE sees nearly 1,500 ceasefire violations in Donbas over weekend
Between the evenings of October 29 and October 31, the OSCE SMM recorded 988 ceasefire violations in Donetsk region and 471 in Luhansk region.
That’s according to OSCE Special Monitoring Mission’s Daily Report No. 256/2021, posted on the organization’s website on November 1.
“In Donetsk region, between the evenings of 29 and 31 October, the SMM recorded 988 ceasefire violations, including 139 explosions (five impacts and 134 undetermined),” the report reads.
The majority of violations occurred inside and south of the disengagement area near Petrivske (non-government-controlled, 41km south of Donetsk) on the evening and night of October 29-30, as well as in areas north of Shyrokyne (government-controlled, 100km south of Donetsk) on the evenings and nights of 29-30 and 30-31, and during the day on October 31, as well as in areas west of the Oktiabr mine (non-government-controlled, 9km north-west of Donetsk city center) on the evening of October 31.
In the previous reporting period, the Special Monitoring Mission recorded 321 ceasefire violations in the region, the majority of which also occurred in areas north of Shyrokyne.
In Luhansk region over the weekend, OSCE monitors recorded “471 ceasefire violations, including 62 explosions (20 ruptures and 42 explosions of unknown origin).”
The majority of ceasefire violations occurred in an area south-west of the disengagement area near Stanytsia Luhanska (government-controlled, 16km north-east of Luhansk) on October 31, assessed as a live-fire training exercise in violation of the decision of the Trilateral Contact Group of March 3, 2016, that banned live-fire trainings in the security zone, and in areas west-south-west of the disengagement area near Zolote (government-controlled, 60km west of Luhansk) on October 30.
In the previous reporting period, the Mission recorded 436 ceasefire violations in the region, almost all of which occurred in areas close to the disengagement area near Zolote.
