Reznikov, Kvien discuss aggravation of security situation
Minister of Defense of Ukraine Oleksiy Reznikov met with Chargé d'Affaires of the United States in Ukraine Kristina Kvien and discussed the aggravation of the security situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and around its borders.
“During the meeting, the Minister of Defense of Ukraine thanked the U.S. Government for its continued support for Ukraine in counteracting Russian armed aggression, implementing defense reforms, and enhancing the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the Ministry of Defense informs.
In this context, the parties discussed the aggravation of the current security situation in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and around its borders.
The officials agreed on the close coordination of political, diplomatic, and other measures to reduce the existing level of escalation.
Separately, the parties discussed the development of bilateral defense cooperation. In particular, U.S. support for the implementation of defense reform measures, implementation of NATO standards and principles in the daily activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, development of their combat, special and institutional capabilities, achievement of interoperability with the US and other partner countries.
The defense minister and the U.S. Chargé d'Affaires in Ukraine called for further deepening of bilateral cooperation, in particular, using the mechanisms proposed by the bilateral documents concluded at the end of August – the framework agreement between the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the United States Department of Defense and Ukraine–US intergovernmental agreement on research, development, testing and evaluation projects.
