Ukrainian border guards preparing for possible breakthrough by illegal migrants
Ukraine's State Border Guard Service does not currently record attempts by illegal migrants to get into Ukraine from Belarus, SBGS spokesperson Andriy Demchenko has told Ukrinform.
"The situation is calm at the moment, as it was in previous days. We continue to strengthen our forces at the border," he said.
Demchenko noted that in addition to the forces of the State Border Guard Service, reserves from other law enforcement agencies are arriving at the border every day.
"We are preparing for the fact that the flow of illegal migrants can be directed towards Ukraine at any time. That is why we must be ready to prevent the breakthrough of illegal migrants into our country," he said.
Migrants from Belarus began storming the Polish border near the Bruzgi-Kuznica checkpoint on Tuesday, November 16.
Some 3,000-4,000 migrants currently stay on the Polish-Belarusian border, and there are up to 20,000 migrants in Belarus.
The Polish border is protected by 20,000 military, border guards and police.
Ukraine is also strengthening its border with Belarus and sending an additional 8,500 troops there.
