Ukrainian Army trains to repel tank attacks near occupied Crimea
In the southern district, an exercise is underway for anti-tank artillery and engineering units, deployed along the de-facto border with the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
In the latest effort, several units simultaneously worked out training tasks in close cooperation with each other, Ukrinform reports referring to the press service of the Joint Forces Command.
Commander of the Joint Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Serhiy Nayev, said the task of the drill was to repel an attempt by a conventional adversary’s tank force to penetrate Ukraine’s defenses in the area most vulnerable to such operations.
"Within minutes, they (Ukrainian units - ed.) took up their designated positions, deployed artillery units, and started installing mine barriers," Nayev said.
According to the Commander, servicemen participating in the exercise have mastered the relevant skills over the eight years of war in Ukraine’s east, which allowed them to perform their tasks clearly, confidently, and in a coordinated manner.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, on October 20, artillery anti-tank reserves took part in a training exercise as part of a South military grouping at one of the combat training grounds in Kherson region. They were tasked to respond to the breakthrough attempt by conventional enemy manpower and armored vehicles. Anti-tank forces demonstrated their practical skills in deploying units and engaging the targets, as well as rapidly maneuvering across positions.
