Pentagon orders construction of ten Mark VI patrol boats for Ukraine - Defense Express
The United States has already ordered the construction of ten Mark VI patrol boats for their further supply to the Ukrainian Navy under the U.S. government's Foreign Military Sales program.
That's according to Defense Express, referring to the Pentagon's official website, Ukrinform reports.
"On December 30, 2021, the U.S. Department of Defense issued a new contract to U.S. company SAFE Boats International worth $25.5 million for the construction of another two Mark VI high-speed patrol boats for their further supply to Ukraine. The work, according to an official statement released by the Pentagon, should be completed by March 2026," the report said.
It says this agreement is the exercise of an option to the contract worth $84.2 million issued to SAFE Boats International by the Department of Defense on September 30, 2021 (the manufacturer later announced an increase in the cost to $89.7 million) for the construction of six Mark VI boats for Ukraine.
The new contract is to be fully funded by the U.S. government using funds that are allocated to Ukraine under the Building Partner Capacity programs in the fiscal year 2021, with work to be completed by March 2026.
