Agrarian Policy Minister: Area of Ukrainian black earth soils exceeds area of Great Britain
The area of Ukrainian black earth soils (chernozems), which is 278,000 square kilometers, exceeds the area of the Great Britain.
Agrarian Policy and Food Minister of Ukraine Taras Kutovy posted this on his Facebook page.
"It’s an interesting comparison, which again demonstrates the scale of Ukrainian valuable resource. However, we must remember that not only quantity, but also the efficiency of use is important," the minister wrote.
According to the Minister, the total area of Ukrainian black earth soils is 278,000 square kilometers, while the area of the Great Britain is approximately 244,000 square kilometers.
As a reminder, Ukraine possesses 30% of the world's black earth soil and plays a key role in ensuring global food security. This was stated by Raimund Jehle, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Deputy Regional Representative for Europe and Central Asia.
