Potential gas reserves in Ukraine estimated at 5.6 trillion cubic meters, says vice prime minister

Gas reserves produced in Ukraine are estimated at 924 billion cubic meters, while the general potential reaches 5.6 trillion cubic meters.

Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Kistion stated this during the hearings of the parliamentary committee on fuel and energy complex, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“The [gas] reserves produced in our country is estimated at 924 billion cubic meters. The total potential, which we can expect in the future, is estimated at 5.6 trillion cubic meters. We have a significant potential for providing our economy with gas. Ukraine annually produces about 2% of its reserves. We need to find the right solution that will make it possible to increase own production,” Kistion said.

According to him, the total gas production by gas companies should reach 27 billion cubic meters by 2020, while PJSC "Ukrgazvydobuvannia" should reach the level of 20 billion cubic meters.
