Ukraine increases sugar exports by almost nine times
In the first quarter of 2017, Ukraine’s exports of sugar amounted to 267.4 thousand tons worth $131.5 million, which is 8.6 times more compared to the same period in 2016, the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry reports.
In particular, in January-March 2017, Ukraine supplied sugar worth $108.8 million to Africa and Asia, and the value of sugar exports to European markets reached $21.2 million.
The largest importers of sugar from Ukraine were Cote d'Ivoire ($16.2 million), Sri Lanka ($6 million), Myanmar ($12 million) and Libya ($11.4 million). In the first quarter of last year, the largest importer of sugar from Ukraine was Romania ($10.3 million).
As earlier reported, Ukraine entered the top three of the world’s largest sugar beet exporters.
