Exports of Ukrainian apples to the European Union increase ninefold
Ukraine took the opportunity to rapidly increase the export of apples to the European Union due to the decline in production of these products in the European countries.
Fruit-Inform reports this referring to the official customs statistics.
According to the official data, Ukraine exported 9,200 tons of apples to the EU from July to January 2017-2018. For comparison, over the same period of 2016-2017, the apple exports from Ukraine to the EU amounted to 1,000 tons, with the majority of those volumes represented by apples for processing.
However, Belarus remains the leading importer of Ukrainian apples, and it has sharply increased its imports. In July-January 2017-2018, Ukraine exported 11,400 tons of apples to this country, a 60% rise against the same period of the previous season.
In total, for seven months of 2017-2018, Ukraine exported 21,000 tons of apples, which was 2.3 times more compared to the same period of last season. As of January 2018, the country exported 4,200 tons of apples – an increase of 1.8 times against the same month of 2017.
