State Statistics: Ukraine’s exports of goods to EU grew by 30%, imports – by 21% in 2017

The volume of Ukrainian exports to the European Union increased by $4.038 billion to $17.535 billion, while imports grew by $3.655 billion to $20.796 billion in 2017 compared to 2016, according to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine.

“In 2017, exports of goods to the EU countries totaled $17,534.5 million and grew by 29.9% ($4,038.2 million) compared to 2016, imports - $ 20,795.8 million and grew by 21.3% ($ 3,655.0 million). Negative balance was $3,261.3 million (in 2016 - $3,644.5 million),” reads the report.

The largest volumes of goods exported to the EU countries were products of the agro-industrial complex and food industry - 32.2% of overall exports, base metals - 21.4%, including ferrous metals - 20,2%, mechanical and electric machines - 14,2%.

The largest export deliveries of goods were made to Poland - 15.5% of overall exports to the EU countries, Italy - 14.1%, Germany - 10.0%, the Netherlands - 9.6%, Hungary - 7.6%, Spain - 7.2%, Romania - 4.8%, and Czech Republic - 4.1%.

In 2017, compared with 2016, exports of goods among the largest trading partners grew to: the Netherlands - by 68.4%, Italy - 28.0%, the Czech Republic - 27.5%, Hungary - 26.0%, Spain – by 25.4%, Poland - 23.8%, Germany - 23.2%, and Romania - 17.4%.

The largest volumes of goods imported from the EU countries were mechanical and electrical machinery - 21.8% of overall imports, chemical products and related industries - 17.2%, mineral products - 15.0%, land transport vehicles, aircrafts, floating means - 10.8%, goods of agro-industrial complex and food industry - 9.8%.

The largest import deliveries of goods were made from Germany - 26.2% of overall imports to the EU, Poland - 16.6%, Italy - 7.8%, France - 7.5%, Hungary - 5.5% , The Czech Republic - 4.2%, and Great Britain - 3.8%.

In 2017, compared with 2016, imports of goods among the largest trading partners grew from: Hungary – by 43.7%, the Czech Republic - 32.7%, Poland - 28.2%, Germany - 26.1%, Italy - 19.6%, and Great Britain - by 12.6%.

As Ukrinform earlier reported, in 2017, Ukraine’s exports of goods amounted to $43.2667 billion, imports – 49.599 billion. Compared to 2016, exports grew by 19.0% (by $6.905 billion), imports - by 26.4% (by $10.349 billion). Negative balance totaled $6.331,9 billion (in 2016, negative balance – $2.888,1 billion).

The export/import coverage ratio was 0.87 (0.93- in 2016). Foreign trade operations were carried out with partners from 223 countries.

The data provided by the State Statistics Service excluded the temporarily occupied territories in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Sevastopol and some parts of the ATO zone in Donbas.
