Ukrainian farmers begin harvesting buckwheat and millet
Ukrainian farmers have started harvesting buckwheat and millet, over 9,000 tonnes have been already gathered, the press service of the Agrarian Policy Ministry reports.
"As of August 22, Ukrainian agrarians trashed 5.7 thousand tonnes of buckwheat from an area of 5.7 million hectares (4% of the forecast) with a yield of 11.8 dt/ha. Also, they harvested 3.6 tonnes of millet from an area of 2.0 thousand hectares (4% of the forecast) with a yield of 18.2 dt/ha,” reads the report.
Meanwhile, the harvesting of early grain crops has been almost completed. As of August 22, farmers gathered about 34.2 million tonnes from an area of 9.8 million hectares (100% of the forecast) with a yield of 34.7 dt/ha.
In general, Ukrainian farmers have already harvested: winter wheat - 24.4 million tonnes from an area of 6.4 million hectares (100%) with a yield of 38.1 dt/ha; spring wheat - 659 thousand tonnes from an area of 187 thousand hectares (95%) with a yield of 35.3 dt/ha; winter barley - 3.1 million tonnes from 871.8 thousand hectares (100%) with a yield of 35.3 dt/ha; spring barley - 4.4 million tonnes from 1.6 million hectares or (99%) with a yield of 27.5 dt/ha; rye - 388 thousand tonnes from 146 thousand hectares (99%) with a yield of 26.5 dt/ha; oats - 434 thousand tonnes from 187 thousand hectares (95%) with a yield of 23.2 dt/ha; peas - 799 thousand tonnes from 430 thousand hectares (99%) with a yield of 18.6 hectares.
In addition, about 2.6 million tonnes of winter rapeseed were harvested from an area of 969.2 thousand hectares (100%) with a yield of 26.5 dt/ha. Also, 94.7 thousand tonnes of spring rapeseed were gathered from an area of 47.0 thousand hectares (72%) with a yield of 20.1 dt/ha.
Together with harvesting, Ukrainian agrarians have started to sow rapeseed for the 2019 harvest. Of the projected 888 thousand hectares, 492.3 thousand hectares have already been sown with rapeseed (55% of the forecast).
