Turkey becomes leader among importers of Ukrainian sunflower seeds
Turkey has significantly increased the import of sunflower seeds from Ukraine - up to 7.6 thousand tonnes in the new marketing season, according to UkrAgroConsult.
“In the first two months of the current season, there was a change of leaders among importers of Ukrainian sunflower seeds. Thus, Turkey took the first place, having significantly increased the purchases of oilseeds - up to 7.6 thousand tonnes against 0.6 thousand tonnes a year earlier, displacing EU countries, exports to which decreased," reads the report.
It is noted that in the first two months of the current season, exports amounted to 13 thousand tonnes, which is twice the figure recorded in the corresponding period last year. In October of the season 2018/19, Ukraine exported 10.4 thousand tonnes of sunflower seeds against 2.6 thousand tonnes last month and 3.6 thousand tonnes in October 2017.
As Ukrinform reported, as of December 5, 13.8 million tonnes of sunflower seeds were harvested in Ukraine from an area of 6 million hectares (99.8% of the forecast) with a yield of 22.8 centners/ha.
