Poroshenko: Ukraine among ten world’s largest exporters of dairy products

In 2018, Ukraine was among ten largest exporters of dairy products in the world.

“Last year we entered top-10 largest exporters of dairy products in the world. That happened for the first time. I emphasize that [we managed to do this] amid the war and restrictions on investment,” President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said at a meeting with the students and professors of the National University of Bioresources and Natural Resources of Ukraine, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Ukraine still needs to raise the quality standards, to reach full compliance with the EU standards, and refocus the dairy production from the post-Soviet and Russian markets, he noted.

According to the President, the current trends in livestock farming pose a threat not only to agriculture and domestic agrarian sector but to the country’s food security on the whole.

“The existing state subsidies are ineffective. I and the partners in the Government, thanks to the support of Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, will offer a new and effective way to solve this problem,” Poroshenko said.
