Ukrainian infrastructure minister, ambassador of Qatar discuss formation of Qatar Airways subsidiary in Ukraine
Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelyan has met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Qatar to Ukraine Hadi Al Hajri and proposed that the Qatari party should consider a possibility of formation of a Qatar Airways subsidiary in Ukraine.
"The minister informed that the aviation industry in Ukraine is developing rapidly, the passenger traffic hit a record high in 2018, noting it can be doubled in 3-4 years. He proposed that the Qatari party should consider the possibility of formation of a Qatar Airways subsidiary company in Ukraine and develop cooperation in the field of cargo aviation," the press service of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine reports.
Ukrainian infrastructure minister also highlighted the successful start of cooper ation on the exchange of experience in port management development and the establishment of a direct and active dialogue at the level of port administrations of Ukraine and Qatar.
"The parties discussed the possibilities of cooperation in the field of transport and investment in the infrastructure projects in Ukraine, including deepening cooperation in the aviation and maritime sectors. Volodymyr Omelyan underscored the importance of further development of direct flights to ensure a stable and positive dynamics of Ukraine-Qatar cooperation in all fields," the Ministry of Infrastructure reports.
Omelyan emphasized that the Ukrainian side welcomes the Qatari companies, invites them to implement joint infrastructure projects and is interested in attracting Qatar’s experience and specialists in modernizing the transport industry in Ukraine.
Ambassador Hadi Al Hajri expressed his gratitude to Volodymyr Omelyan for constructive dialogue, significant achievements and a promising vision of the development of infrastructure relations between the two countries.
In 2018, the passenger numbers in Ukrainian airports amounted to more than 20 million and increased by 25% compared with 2017.
