Ukraine's position on Nord Stream 2 unchanged - Shmyhal
Ukraine's position on the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline remains unchanged, and the country believes that this project poses a danger not only to Ukraine but also to the whole of Europe, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has said.
He said this at a government meeting on Thursday, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.
"We were talking with German Chancellor Angela Merkel about Nord Stream 2 and other energy projects. Our position remains unchanged. Nord Stream 2 is a Russian political project that threatens both Ukraine and Europe," Shmyhal said.
He also recalled that the Dusseldorf Higher Regional Court on August 25 dismissed a lawsuit filed by the Nord Stream 2 operator (a subsidiary of Gazprom) against the ruling of the Federal Network Agency Bundesnetzagentur not to exempt the gas pipeline from the EU Gas Directive.
Shmyhal has repeatedly stated that Ukraine will insist on halting the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline.
