Zelensky invites Congressional Ukraine Caucus to join implementation of economic transformation plan
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has invited representatives of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus (support group) to join the implementation of the plan for the transformation of the Ukrainian economy, which he presented in Washington, the presidential press service has reported.
According to the report, this issue was discussed at a meeting between Zelensky and representatives of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus during which the head of state briefed them on the reforms being implemented in Ukraine.
"We are taking decisive steps to speed up the real transformation of Ukraine and we have a clear plan for the implementation of priorities, including anti-corruption policy and judicial reform," Zelensky said.
The parties paid significant attention to the security situation around Ukraine and in the region, the situation in Donbas and in the temporarily occupied Crimea.
A separate topic for dialogue was security issues related to Russia's implementation of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project. "Sanction pressure on this project must be maintained. Only U.S. sanctions against Nord Stream 2 can stimulate Russia to make agreements and observe them," Zelensky said.
He said Ukraine was interested in expanding cooperation with the United States in the field of education.
Zelensky also thanked the U.S. side for the treatment and rehabilitation of the Ukrainian military and added that he counted on U.S. support in establishing a network of medical and rehabilitation centers for the military in Ukraine.
In addition, during the conversation, the parties discussed the events in Afghanistan and the steps taken by Ukraine and the United States to evacuate their citizens from this country.
Co-Chair of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus Marcy Kaptur, for her part, noted the Ukrainian president's activity, ambitions and leadership in carrying out large-scale transformations and reforms in Ukraine, which had not been possible before.
She assured the president of U.S. support for Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty and for all the positive changes taking place in the country.
Zelensky noted the effective bipartisan and bicameral support in the U.S. Congress, which is an important foundation for strategic partnership and is based on common values and long-term interests.
"We continue to uphold shared democratic values with the United States and are interested in taking the strategic partnership to a whole new level," he said.
Zelensky thanked the U.S. delegation, which was represented at a high level, for participating in the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Ukraine's independence and the first summit of the Crimea Platform.
On the second day of his working visit to the United States, President Volodymyr Zelensky presented a transformation plan aimed at attracting about $300 billion to the Ukrainian economy.
