Wage arrears to coal miners reach UAH 1.95B - Volynets

Total wage arrears to coal miners in Ukraine have reached UAH 1.95 billion, according to Mykhailo Volynets, Head of the Independent Trade Union of Miners of Ukraine.

"As of today, the total debt to employees of state-owned mines has reached UAH 1.95 billion. And next week this amount will grow by UAH 500 million of the salary fund for October,” Volynets wrote on Facebook.

According to him, the Ukrainian miners have been waiting for three weeks for payments totaling UAH 1 billion, which are envisaged by the amendments to the 2021 state budget to repay part of the miners wage arrears.

As Ukrinform reported, in January-September 2021, Ukrainian mining enterprises of all forms of ownership produced 21.816 million tonnes of coal, which is 6.5% more than planned. Compared to the same period in 2020, Ukraine’s coal production rose by 787.8 thousand tonnes.
