Government resumes work of Energy Company of Ukraine – PM Shmyhal

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved a decision to start establishing a vertically integrated company with the participation of the state-owned company Centerenergo.

"The company will be merged with the state mines into a single structure. This will allow ensuring uninterrupted supply of coal for Centerenergo, while state-owned mines will receive a clear sales channel, a normal level of payments and opportunities for modernization," Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said at a government’s meeting on November 10, according to the Government portal.

According to the prime minister, the decision concerns the resumption of operation of the enterprise Energy Company of Ukraine, on the basis of which the merger will take place.

At the same time, Shmyhal stressed that the Cabinet of Ministers would not abandon plans of Centerenergo’s privatization, as the creation of a company with both production and generation functions would only raise interest during an open auction.
