UNDP, Energy Saving Agency sign memorandum of cooperation

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Ukraine’s State Agency on Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving (SAEE) have signed a memorandum of cooperation in the field of developing the ‘green’ financing market and enhancing energy efficiency in Ukraine.

According to Ukrinform, this has been reported by the SAEE’s press service.

“Ukraine has a significant potential for energy efficiency in all sectors of the economy. Various tools, including financial ones, are required for its implementation. The expansion of ‘green’ financing, in particular with the support of UNDP, will become a driver of change, promote lowering barriers and launching numerous energy efficiency projects,” SAEE Head Valeriy Bezus said.

According to him, within the concluded memorandum, the parties will step up cooperation to support more sustainable economic development of Ukraine and will focus primarily on developing the market of ‘green’ financing. The cooperation will also include work on the legal framework for the introduction of a guarantee of energy origin, the creation of a national energy monitoring information system, as well as the implementation of the requirements of EU energy efficiency directives.

As reported, on October 27, 2021, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk signed the law "On Energy Efficiency", which aims to create conditions for improving the efficiency of fuel and energy resources’ use in Ukraine.
