Shmyhal, Dombrovskis discuss ways to strengthen trade, economic cooperation
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and Executive Vice President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis have discussed the further development of relations and the strengthening of trade and economic cooperation between Ukraine and the European Union.
According to Ukrinform, Shmyhal wrote about this on Telegram.
"We considered ways to strengthen our trade and economic cooperation. We also spoke about the launch of new support programs," he said.
Shmyhal stressed that he was once again convinced that the EU is a reliable and consistent partner of Ukraine.
Ukraine received EUR 600 million as the second tranche of macro-financial assistance from the EU on October 25. The European Commission made such a decision on September 13, 2021. This decision was the result of a positive assessment of the implementation of the conditions set out in the bilateral memorandum of understanding, as well as Ukraine's progress in the context of its programs with the IMF.
This assistance completed the payment by the EU to Ukraine of a EUR 1.2 billion macro-financial assistance package. Ukraine received the first tranche of such assistance, also in the amount of EUR 600 million, in December 2020.
These funds were part of a total EUR 3 billion macro-financial assistance package for ten EU candidate and partner countries to address the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
