NBU raises main interest rate to 9%

The National Bank of Ukraine has decided to raise its main interest rate to 9%.

Deputy Head of the National Bank of Ukraine Serhii Nikolaichuk said this at a briefing on Thursday, December 9, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"The Board of the National Bank of Ukraine has decided to raise the key rate to 9%," Nikolaichuk said.

According to him, this decision is aimed at leveling the impact of additional pro-inflation risks, improving inflation expectations and ensuring a sustainable reduction in inflation to 5%.

Ukraine's central bank in October kept its main interest rate unchanged at 8.5%. Earlier in September, the regulator raised its main interest rate to 8.5%. The key interest rate was kept at 6% between June 2020 and March 2021. Then it was gradually raised to 8%.
