More than UAH 35B spent on combating COVID-19 this year

In Ukraine, more than 35 billion hryvnias has been spent on combating the coronavirus pandemic this year.

“In total, the Government has spent more than 35 billion hryvnias this year to finance the fight against the coronavirus. This includes additional payments to doctors, purchase of oxygen and oxygen stations, financing laboratories, and many other important things,” Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said at the Cabinet’s meeting on December 29, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

He stressed that doctors' salaries had been increased by an average of 30%, 3 million patients use the Affordable Medicines program, expanded by almost 50%, over the year. In addition, more than 700 new ambulances and hundreds of expensive medical equipment were purchased, hundreds of hospital admission departments were renovated.

According to the Prime Minister, funding for the treatment and prevention of cancer in 2021 has grown to UAH 5 billion (from UAH 3 billion in 2020). In addition, funding for the treatment of heart attacks, strokes and other diseases has increased.
