Coal stocks in TPP warehouses decrease by 7.9% over week - Ukrenergo

As of January 31, 2022, coal reserves in the warehouses of Ukrainian thermal power plants (TPPs) amount to 657,200 tonnes, which is 7.9% below the level recorded on January 24.

That’s according to NEC Ukrenergo, Ukrinform reports.

"As of the morning of January 31, the total coal reserves in the warehouses of thermal power plants stand at 657,200 tonnes, including 599,200 tonnes of gas-grade coal and 58,000 tonnes of anthracite," the statement reads.

As of January 24, there were 713,500 tonnes of coal in the TPP warehouses.

It is also noted that on January 31, one TPP unit with a total capacity of 0.3 GW was in emergency repair, while on the morning of January 24 - it was a power unit and a TPP facility with a total capacity of 0.55 GW. In addition, due to lack of fuel, 20 units and a facility (TPP and CHPP) with a total capacity of 4.8 GW were down (as of the morning of January 24, it was 16 units and one facility with a total capacity of 4.1 GW).

On January 24-30, thermal power plants generated 892.3 million kWh of electricity, which is 21.7% more than in the previous week. The share of TPPs in load coverage stood at 24%.

As reported earlier, 6 million tonnes of coal will arrive in Ukraine in the first quarter, while some 5.5 million tonnes are expected to be burned over the same period.
