EIB invested EUR 554M in Ukraine in 2021

In 2021, the European Investment Bank (EIB) signed agreements on financing infrastructure and innovation projects in Ukraine for a total sum of EUR 554.

Head of the EIB Resident Representation for Ukraine Jean-Erik de Zagon said this at a briefing, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

In particular, the EIB issued EUR 270 million, almost half of its financing provided to partners in Ukraine, for infrastructure rehabilitation at Boryspil International Airport.

In addition, the EIB invested EUR 100 million to upgrade electricity-powered public transport in Kyiv city. According to Jean-Erik de Zagon, this financing will enable the introduction of more environmentally-friendly and energy-efficient electricity-powered public transport, improve the quality of daily life, and reduce air and noise pollution.

Last year, the EIB also directed EUR 58 million to support the ongoing modernization of Ukraine vocational education and training system.

Jean-Erik de Zagon reminded of the EIB’s support for the private sector in Ukraine is diverse and covers companies of all sizes operating in key sectors of the national economy. The EIB provided a EUR 106 million loan to modernize Ukraine agricultural sector and improve food supply.

“We also disbursed EUR 50 million from another project to purchase COVID-19 vaccines. Another EUR 29 million were provided as technical assistance for the development of important investment projects to be implemented in Ukraine," said de Zagon.

As reported, the European Investment Bank has invested more than EUR 7 billion in Ukraine since 2007.
