NBU: Banking sector received record UAH 77.5B in profits in 2021

In 2021, the net profit of Ukrainian banks hit a record high of UAH 77.5 billion, which is almost twice as much as in 2020 (UAH 39.7 billion), Ukrinform reports, referring to the press service of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

"In 2021, solvent banks received a record high profit of UAH 77.5 billion, which is almost twice as much as in 2020 (UAH 39.7 billion), and by 33% higher than in the pre-crisis year 2019 (UAH 58.4 billion). The return on capital of the sector grew to 35.2% compared to 19.2% in 2020," the report says.

As of January 1, 2022, out of 71 solvent banks, 66 were profitable and received a total net profit of UAH 77.9 billion, which covered the losses of five banks totaling UAH 0.4 billion. The sector's profits are concentrated: the five most profitable banks accounted for 67% of total profits.

As Ukrinform reported, the net profit of Ukrainian banks amounted to UAH 41.3 billion in 2020, which is 29% less than in 2019.
