TikTok suspends operations in Russia

The social network TikTok has decided to suspend its operations in the Russian Federation.

This was reported by Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov via Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

"TikTok is suspending its work in Russia due to the law on fake news. Another glonal organization does not understand how to publish the obvious truth, which in Russia is branded as ‘fake,’” Fedorov wrote.

Russia's Roskomnadzor regulator has earlier blocked Twitter and Facebook in Russia.

On March 4, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law criminalizing "fake news" about the activities of Russia’s military servicemen.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared war on Ukraine and launched a large-scale invasion.

Russian troops have been killing civilians, shelling and destroying key infrastructure, and their missiles have been hitting Ukrainian households.
