Ukrzaliznytsia begins to nationalize Russian railway cars
Ukrzaliznytsia JSC is starting to nationalize Russian railway cars. In general, more than 15,000 Russian railway cars are expected to be nationalized.
The relevant statement was made by Ukrzaliznytsia JSC Board Chairman Oleksandr Kamyshin on Telegram, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“We are starting to nationalize Russian railway cars, which are staying in Ukraine. This became possible after the President of Ukraine signed the Law ‘On the Basic Principles of the Compulsory Seizure of the Objects of Property Rights of the Russian Federation’. Now a total of 15,000 Russian railway cars are standing on Ukrainian railroad tracks. They are owned by 250 companies. We are acting according to the law,” Kamyshin wrote.
At the first stage, the list of the owners of railway cars, having Russia among their founders, will be made. Then, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, the National Security and Defense Council will work; the Decree of the President and one more Law of Ukraine will be endorsed.
“The procedure will take us some time, so we are starting now. Determining the railway car owners having a Russian share in their capital is not a fast task. Meanwhile, there are companies, which are definitely owned by Russia, namely WEB-Leasing, VTB-Leasing, Gazpromtrans, GTLK, Sberbank Leasing. These are more than 3,000 railway cars. Now Russian railway cars will work for Ukraine’s economy. They will be useful to us, as we are working on new logistic routes towards Europe, which will help us to resume freight operations,” Kamyshin noted.
In his words, there are just 482 Ukrainian railway cars in Russia.
A reminder that, on February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, starting a war. Russian troops are shelling and destroying the key infrastructure facilities, launching missile strikes on residential areas in Ukrainian cities and villages, killing civilians in Ukraine.
