President Zelensky: Ukraine becomes a member of ‘European Energy Union’
Ukraine and the European Union have completed the integration of the two energy systems.
The relevant statement was made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Twitter, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“Ukraine has become a member of the ‘European Energy Union’. Now our electricity flows to the EU and vice versa. I am grateful to EU members, and personally to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson and everyone, thanks to whom we now have a single energy system,” Zelensky wrote.
According to the Office of the President of Ukraine, Ukrenergo National Power Company and European colleagues have completed the integration of the Ukrainian and European energy systems.
“The Ukrainian and European energy systems are now working synchronously,” Zelensky noted.
Zelensky reminded that, on the night when Russia started a war against Ukraine, the Ukrainian energy system disconnected from the Russian and Belarusian energy systems and will never return.
“The enemy expected that the Ukrainian energy system would collapse, that we would not be able to cope, so he seized Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, deliberately bombed and keeps bombing thermal power plants in Ukrainian cities, as well as transmission lines. But the Ukrainian energy system has worked stably and steadily over 21 days since the war started, as recognized by Europeans. And starting from today we are no longer alone,” Zelensky stressed.
From now on, the Ukrainian energy system has reliable energy reserves, which are located abroad and, hence, it is protected against attacks by invaders.
“We now have a single energy circulatory system, from Lisbon to Mariupol. Ukraine is in the ‘energy eurozone’. We cannot be defeated,” Zelensky added.
