President Zelensky: Ukraine’s liberation from Russian invaders is the only way to stop the food crisis
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky believes the only secure way to stop the development of the food crisis is to put an end to the war and liberate Ukraine’s territory from Russian invaders.
The relevant statement was made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during his speech at a special meeting of the World Bank, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“To stop the war now and to liberate our territory from Russian invaders is the only secure way to stop the development of the food crisis,” Zelensky said.
In his words, Russia has blocked Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, significantly reducing Ukraine’s exports, namely agricultural exports. The lack of Ukrainian-produced food is becoming noticeable on the global market.
According to the recent UN report, about 47 million in 81 countries will starve due to growing food prices this year.
“The lack of Ukrainian wheat, corn, vegetable oil and other products will not only lead to the physical shortage of food in many African and Asian countries but may also cause political instability and, perhaps, a new migration crisis. People will be looking for those, who are guilty in this crisis, taking to the streets in their countries, cities. People will be looking for the way to save themselves,” the President of Ukraine noted.
According to Zelensky, Ukraine is making every effort to build up exports. The sowing campaign has started in the country, but no one can be sure Ukraine will be able to guarantee food security, as long as the war is going on.
A reminder that, on February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, starting a war. Russian troops are shelling and destroying the key infrastructure facilities, launching missile and air strikes on Ukrainian cities and villages, torturing and murdering civilians.
