Sowing campaign completed in Ukraine
A total of 13.4 million hectares, or 95% of the projected area, have been sown with spring crops in Ukraine.
The relevant statement was made by the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry on Telegram, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“As of June 16, 2022, the sowing of spring crops was completed. A total of 13.4 million hectares, or 95% of the projected area, were sown,” the report states.
According to the ministry, the projected area of spring crop plantations for 2022 was 14,163.4 thousand hectares, which is 2,752.9 thousand hectares lower compared to last year.
In general, Ukrainian farmers sowed 191.1 thousand hectares with spring wheat, 951.4 thousand hectares with spring barley, 34.1 thousand hectares with spring rapeseed, 159.3 thousand hectares with oats, 131.0 thousand hectares with peas, 75.3 thousand hectares with buckwheat, 49.5 thousand hectares with millet, 4,639.4 thousand hectares with corn, 180.6 thousand hectares with sugar beets, 4,702.7 thousand hectares with sunflowers, 1,212.6 thousand hectares with soybeans and 1,104.2 thousand hectares with potatoes.
In terms of the 2022 sowing campaign, the biggest changes were recorded in the structure of wheat, corn, sunflower and soybean plantations.
