Ukrainian farmers harvest 2M tonnes of grains, legumes in Odesa region

Agrarians of the Odesa region have harvested 2 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops to date.

That’s according to Serhiy Bratchuk, the spokesman for the head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"As of July 26, the farmers in Odesa region threshed two million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops. The average yield is 25.5 tonnes per hectare," Bratchuk noted.

According to the official, amid Russian missile attacks, the problem of preserving grain and ensuring its export has become acute in the region. Top managers of silo operators and shipment companies are working to find a solution to the said issue, while the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has started implementing a corresponding project worth $17 million.

As reported, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food expects that, once the seaports reopen for agri-exports, their average monthly volume will be at least 5 million tonnes.

According to Agriculture Minister Mykola Solskyi, the new harvest is expected to reach 60 million tonnes.

Last year, Odesa farmers harvested a record grain crop of 5.2 million tonnes.
