Ukrainian envoy calls on Canada not to repair five more Nord Stream 1 turbines

Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada Yuliya Kovaliv has called on Canada not to provide maintenance services for five more Nord Stream 1 turbines. Earlier, an exception was made for the first Siemens turbine.

The relevant statement was made by Ambassador of Ukraine to Canada Yuliya Kovaliv on Facebook, referring to her speech in the Canadian House of Commons Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development (FAAE), an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“Russia is responsible of orchestrating gas crisis in Europe. If the reason for the waiver was not to allow Russia to blame sanctions for the disruption of gas supply, it’s now more than clear that additional 5 turbines, that were allowed to be maintained in Canada soon, will be turned by Russia into tools of humiliation. We urge you: do not take the bait,” Kovaliv stressed.

In her words, the logic of appeasing Putin failed to prevent the war.

“Let’s not forget that since the permit was issued, Russia has committed series of awful war crimes: attacked a shopping mall in Kremenchuk and Odessa Sea Port, killed over 50 prisoners of war of Azovstal and over 160 civilians only in three weeks,” Kovaliv told.

Meanwhile, according to Kovaliv, Ukraine is eager to work with European countries on the measures to decrease gas dependency.

“We are committed to help, both by using Ukrainian gas route, offering gas storage facilities and by supplying EU with additional electricity that could substitute up to 5 billion cubic meters of Russian gas,” Kovaliv explained.
