Ukraine calls on Arab countries to join embargo on Russian oil

Ukraine's Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Maksym Subkh, at an extraordinary session of the Arab League Council in Cairo at the level of permanent representatives called on the Arab countries to join the sanctions against Russia.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said this in a statement, Ukrinform reports.

The diplomat noted that Ukraine welcomes the efforts of the Arab League Council in the context of searching for ways to stop Russian aggression, and expressed hope that the Arab world would continue to support Ukraine, including within international organizations.

Subkh also added that Russian aggressors are committing genocide against the Ukrainian people, while the whole world is suffering from the consequences of aggression, crisis phenomena are intensifying, which threatens the political stability of individual countries. In addition, Russia uses the issue of food security as a tool of pressure on the international community, while Ukraine is a reliable partner in solving food problems.

He called on the Arab countries to join the sanctions measures against the Russian Federation, including in the introduction of an embargo on the supply of Russian oil.

He also said that the holding of so-called referendums in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine would make it impossible to resume negotiations with Moscow.

On July 12, President Volodymyr Zelensky appointed Subkh as Ukraine's special representative for the Middle East and Africa.
