Ukraine terminates cooperation with Russia in nuclear power sector

The Ukrainian government has terminated the Agreement on Scientific, Technical and Economic Cooperation in the Field of Nuclear Power with the Russian Federation.

The relevant statement was made by Permanent Representative of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnychuk on Telegram, following a meeting of the Ukrainian government, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“The Agreement between the Government of Ukraine and the Government of the Russian Federation on Scientific, Technical and Economic Cooperation in the Field of Nuclear Power, which was signed in Moscow on January 14, 1993, has been terminated,” Melnychuk wrote.

A reminder that, on the night of March 4, 2022, Russian occupiers seized Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, Zaporizhzhia NPP. Now, according to the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Russia has completed all preparatory works and is waiting for the right moment to connect Zaporizhzhia NPP to its network. Russian special services are torturing the Ukrainian personnel of the plant to force them not to tell the IAEA inspectors about safety risks at Zaporizhzhia NPP.
