Shmyhal, von der Leyen discuss Ukraine's integration into EU internal market

Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen discussed the integration of Ukraine into the European Union internal market, the Ukrainian electricity export, and Ukraine’s restoration at a meeting in Kyiv.

"I am grateful that the European Union and Mrs. President support us undisputably. This gives us firm confidence in our strength and our victory," Shmyhal said, the Government portal informs.

The Head of Government thanked the President of the European Commission for yet another visit to Ukraine during a full-scale war as a great sign of active cooperation between Ukraine and the EU on the way to full-fledged membership.

The Prime Minister of Ukraine and the President of the European Commission discussed the future bilateral cooperation and support for Ukraine in the coming year. The Head of Government thanked for the financial and military assistance that the European Union had provided to Ukraine.

Moreover, the parties touched upon the continued strengthening of sanctions pressure on Russia and the restoration of Ukraine. According to the Prime Minister, a shared vision of the platform and reconstruction of our country will be presented at a conference in Germany in October.

Shmyhal and von der Leyen agreed to cooperate on the export of electricity from Ukraine to EU countries and discussed the situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). "We have to find a solution to demilitarize the plant and the territories around it," said the Head of the Government.

Among other things, the Prime Minister of Ukraine and the President of the European Commission discussed the integration of Ukraine into the EU internal market, in particular into the European free roaming zone, as well as customs cooperation issues.

Ursula von der Leyen, for her part, congratulated Ukraine on its military successes in the east of the country and announced that the European Union would provide Ukraine with EUR 100 million to restore schools destroyed by Russian shelling.

As reported, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen arrived in Kyiv on a visit on Thursday, September 15.

The President of Ukraine awarded Ursula von der Leyen the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise, 1st degree.
