No shortage threat: Ukraine has threshed wheat more than twice the annual need
Farmers have harvested 19.2 million tonnes of wheat this year, which is more than twice the volume of annual domestic consumption.
"Our domestic consumption of fodder and milling wheat is about 7.5-8 million tonnes per year. To date, we have collected more than twice as much as our annual need. Therefore, there is no threat of a shortage," First Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Taras Vysotskyi said during a press conference at the Media Center Ukraine — Ukrinform.
Vysotskyi noted that wheat harvesting in Ukraine has already been completed. In general, farmers threshed approximately 19.2 million tonnes of wheat with an average yield of over 40 centners per hectare.
In addition, the harvest of barley has been completed in Ukraine, of which 5.5 million tonnes have already been threshed. The domestic consumption of this crop in Ukraine is about 2.5-3 million tonnes, Vysotskyi added.
Also, harvesting of winter rapeseed has already been completed, of which 3.1 million tonnes have already been threshed.
As reported, as of mid-September, the Ukrainian agricultural producers harvested 26 million tonnes of grain and leguminous crops.
