Steel production in Ukraine shrinks by 66% in nine months
Ukrainian steel mills produced 5.526 million tonnes of steel from January through September 2022, which is 66.1% or 10.768 million tonnes less than in the same period of 2021.
That's according to the press service of the Ukrmetalurgprom association, Ukrinform reports.
According to the report, pig iron production fell by 66.2%, or 10.688 million tonnes, in the first nine months of this year, to 5.46 million tonnes.
Over the period under review, steel mills produced 4.731 million tonnes of rolled steel, which is 67.3% or 9.748 million tonnes less than in the first nine months of 2021.
In the first eight months of 2022, Ukraine exported 30,400 tonnes of scrap metal compared to 410,500 tonnes in the same period last year.
