Damages to Russian-captured Zaporizhia NPP exceed UAH 28B
The losses sustained by NAEC Energoatom from the occupation of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant by the Russian forces amount to UAH 28.184 billion, preliminary estimates say.
That’s according to the energy operator’s press service, Ukrinform reports.
"Specialists with SE NAEC Energoatom ran a preliminary analysis of the consequences of the occupation of the Zaporizhia NPP and other separate assets of the company located in the city of Enerhodar, the destruction and damage to the buildings and structures of the plant. It says the value of assets destroyed and damaged as of November 1, 2022, is UAH 28.184 billion, including UAH 27.804 billion in fixed assets," the statement says.
At the same time, the final amount of losses and damages inflicted by Russia on the Zaporizhia NPP will be determined after the de-occupation of the plant and a full inspection and inventory of all property.
As reported earlier, the Zaporizhia NPP was captured by the Russian military on March 4. Since then, the invaders have deployed at the site military equipment and ammunition. They have also been shelling the surrounding area from the plant’s premises. The Russians are also shelling the plant itself, destroying power lines, severing the NPP’s external power supply, while blaming Ukraine’s Armed Forces for the attacks.
Russians abduct and torture ZNPP employees. In addition, according to Energoatom, the invaders started illegal construction on the NPP.
