PM Shmyhal: Ukraine’s energy system stabilized
At the end of the week, the power industry workers stabilized the operation of the power system, while deficit remains at the level of 20%.
"At the end of the week, we managed to stabilize the operation of the power system. The capacity deficit remains at the level of about 20%. More than 1,000 specialists are working daily to repair networks," Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal posted on Facebook, summing up the week.
He noted that the EBRD and the Netherlands allocated EUR 372 million to Ukrenergo national power company for the prompt repair of damages caused by Russian attacks. In addition, Norway allocates EUR 200 million to Naftogaz of Ukraine to purchase gas. Another EUR 300 million is allocated for these purposes by the EBRD, and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine transferred over UAH 12.7 billion to Naftogaz for additional purchases of gas for Ukraine’s storage facilities.
Shmyhal noted that part of 4,000 Points of Invincibility is already fully operational, while others are expanding their work.
The Head of the Government also summarized the international financial aid provided to Ukraine for a week. In particular, the accounts received EUR 2.5 billion from the European Union, and Canada issued $500 million bonds, the proceeds of which will be transferred to Ukraine.
The European Parliament voted in favor of the allocation of EUR 18 billion in aid to Ukraine in 2023, and the United States announced the provision of $4.5 billion to finance the budget. Another 200 million euros of aid is allocated by the Netherlands and 100 million euros – by France.
In addition, the Government of Ukraine adopted a resolution that will allow to receive 500 million dollars from the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The Program Monitoring with Board Involvement was agreed on with the IMF which will allow to obtain a new financial program in 2023.
From March to October, UAH 387 billion was channeled into paying pensions, and over UAH 137 billion – various benefits for 10 months of this year. "Despite all the difficulties, the state has never delayed payment of pensions and social benefits. Today, almost 20 million Ukrainians receive them," the PM stressed.
In addition, the Head of the Government highlighted the topic of grain export. According to him, almost 12 million tonnes of food have been exported to Asia, Europe and Africa from the ports of Odesa region since August thanks to the grain corridors.
Ukraine also managed to accumulate, together with partners, about $150 million for the implementation of the GrainfromUkraine initiative.
As reported, the Russian missile attack on November 23 led to the temporary blackout of all nuclear power plants, most thermal power and hydropower plants. Electric power transmission facilities were also affected. Due to a decrease in the frequency in the energy system of Ukraine, emergency protection was activated at the Rivne, South Ukraine, and Khmelnytsky NPPs, as a result of which all power units automatically shut down.
