Ukraine expects Russian banks to be disconnected from SWIFT - Shmyhal

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has said at a meeting with the foreign ministers of the Northern European and Baltic countries that in the EU's ninth sanctions package, Ukraine expects Russian banks to be completely disconnected from the SWIFT international payment system.

Shmyhal said this in a post on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

"The foreign ministers of seven countries -- Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Finland, and Sweden -- arrived in Ukraine today. The main topics of our meeting were weapons, finances, and sanctions against the aggressor," Shmyhal said.

According to him, in the ninth sanctions package, Ukraine hopes that Russian banks will be completely disconnected from SWIFT and a ban will be imposed on the entry of citizens of a terrorist state into the EU.

The participants in the meeting also paid considerable attention to the energy sector and Russia's shelling of Ukraine's critical infrastructure.

"I thanked the Northern European and Baltic countries for their help with energy equipment. This support helps Ukrainians to remain invincible and continue the fight against barbaric Russian aggression," Shmyhal said.

The foreign ministers of Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden arrived in Kyiv on November 28 to discuss further support for Ukraine.
