Ukraine needs EU help to purchase gas, electricity - President Zelensky
Ukraine needs the support of the European Union for the purchase of 2 billion cubic meters of gas and electricity worth EUR 800,000 to compensate for the damage inflicted by Russian strikes on the Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelensky during an online address to the European Council, Ukrinform reports.
"I urge you to continue doing everything so that we can support the energy supply to Ukrainians. And I am grateful to each and every one of you who have already helped with the supply of equipment and financial support. But now, in order for the next six months to pass without upheavals, something more must be done," said the president.
He emphasized that Ukraine needs support to purchase the volume of gas that is used to compensate for the damage caused by Russian strikes on other types of generation. According to him, it is about 2 billion cubic meters of gas.
Zelensky added that Ukrainians currently require a supply of electricity from the EU worth approximately EUR 800,000.
"Just as we will be able to help you with the export of electricity when we restore our generation, we need your help now to get through this winter. We are talking about the supply of electricity worth about EUR 800 million," he emphasized.
As reported, since October 10, Russia has been carrying out massive missile and drone strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure.
