Austria to transfer another EUR 5M to Ukraine Energy Support Fund
Austria will allocate another five million euros to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund to help restore the country's energy infrastructure damaged by Russian drone and missile attacks.
Austria's Minister of Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology Leonore Gewessler told this to journalists, Ukrinform reports, citing APA.
"In freezing temperatures, millions of people are without electricity and often without heating or water supply. It is important to me that Austria makes a contribution here to support the Ukrainian civilian population," said Gewessler, who is with the Austrian president on a visit to Ukraine.
The minister added that in total, Austria had already contributed ten million euros to the fund.
She stressed that Austria should not stand by and watch as Russia's President Putin "uses winter as a weapon and specifically tries to hit the critical infrastructure in his brutal attacks on Ukraine."
"Russia's attack on Ukraine, in violation of international law, makes it clear to us that we must quickly stop importing fossil fuels, especially from Russia," Gewessler said.
