Capacity deficit in Ukraine’s power system remains - operator

The available volume of generated electricity is still insufficient to cover full consumption, leading to a capacity deficit, primarily in the evening hours.

That’s according to the press service of NEC Ukrenergo, the grid operator, Ukrinform reports.

"The available volume of generated electricity is still insufficient to cover full consumption. The electricity that is being generated is distributed to ensure the operation of energy and critical infrastructure (water utility companies, boiler houses, hospitals, etc.), as well as to cover the needs of industry and households," the statement says.

The company recalled that the main reason for the deficit is damage to power plants (generating capacity) and high-voltage networks inflicted by Russia's attacks on the energy system. Also, more than 10 GW of the main installed capacities are currently inaccessible to the Ukrainian energy system, being under the enemy control. These include Europe’s largest nuclear power plant, Zaporizhia NPP, as well as Zaporizhia TPP, Luhansk TPP, Vuhlehirsk TPP, and Kakhovska HPP.

As reported, Ukraine's energy system has already withstood 13 enemy missile attacks and 15 waves of UAV strikes on energy facilities. Repairs are currently underway at all energy facilities damaged by Russian attacks.
