Shmyhal: Last year was most difficult for government but it managed to achieve economic stability
The last year was the most difficult for the work of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine but it managed to achieve financial and economic stability and progress in European integration.
"Three years of the Government's work, of which the last year was the most difficult. We withstood on the economic, financial, budget, energy, social, logistics, and food fronts," Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal posted on Facebook, summing up the outgoing week.
The key achievements of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine are financial and economic stability, energy sustainability, and progress in European integration.
"We continue to work for our victory," Shmyhal wrote.
He noted that the United for Justice conference was held in Lviv this week. Its purpose is to restore justice and punish the aggressor for the crimes it committed, in particular, through the creation of an international tribunal to prosecute the leadership of the Russian Federation and a mechanism for the payment of reparations which should be based on an international treaty.
Shmyhal noted that the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development opened an office in Kyiv this week. Coordination of joint efforts with the OECD reaches a new level.
According to Shmyhal, the OECD will take an active part in the reconstruction of Ukraine. Ukraine already has the status of a potential member of the organization and is waiting for the start of a dialogue on joining the OECD.
A meeting of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities under the President of Ukraine was also held this week. For quick recovery, the interaction between the Government and local authorities will be intensified. Shmyhal expects the active efforts of communities in the development of project and estimate documentation and filling in the register of damaged and destroyed property.
The Prime Minister added that the Government continues to develop anti-corruption infrastructure. The Cabinet of Ministers approved the State Anti-Corruption Program, which is a key tool for implementing the Anti-Corruption Strategy for 2021-2025. Also, the competition commission identified and submitted its proposals to the Cabinet regarding the three finalists of the selection for the post of director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau. The Government will appoint the Bureau’s director at the next meeting.
Shmyhal noted that for the second time during the full-scale war, at the initiative of President Volodymyr Zelensky, indexation of pensions is carried out for 10.5 million pensioners. The maximum increase will be UAH 1,500. Whereas the minimum increase will be UAH 100 even if the calculated indexation amount is less.
Shmyhal also mentioned the visit of U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Janet Yellen to Kyiv. He praised the "productive dialogue regarding the U.S. financial support for Ukraine, strengthening of anti-Russian sanctions, confiscation of frozen Russian assets." The United States also undertook to provide Ukraine with more than $10 billion in budget support by September.
