The heads of the Ukrainian and Moldovan border and customs agencies have signed a protocol on the organization of joint control at the Serpneve-1 – Basarabeasca railway checkpoint.

That's according to the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service, Ukrinform reports.

"Today is an important stage in strengthening relations between our countries. The implementation of the concept of joint control at the railway crossing point will not only intensify trade and economic activity between Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, but will also strengthen our cooperation in the area of border management," said Serhii Deineko, head of the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service.

Serhii Zviahintsev, acting head of the Ukrainian State Customs Service, in turn, said the work was primarily focused on making services convenient for citizens and businesses. "We see here great opportunities for expanding our export potential and the transit opportunities of Moldova. In the future, after our victory, this will contribute to the expansion of the export of Moldovan enterprises to foreign markets using the logistics of the ports of the Odesa region. This will also serve in the future as an impetus for the growth of investments from the point of view of business, the development of transit potential and logistics routes," Zviahintsev added.

Ukrainian and Moldovan border guards and customs officers agreed to launch joint border control within the next few days.

During the meeting, the parties also said the development of joint control led to positive changes, increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of transit operations, improving the level of security at the border and contributing to the European development of Ukraine and Moldova.
