Ukrenergo CEO outlines four components of preparations for next winter

Four key components are needed to prepare Ukraine’s energy system for the next winter period and possible terrorist attacks from Russia.

The relevant statement was made by Ukrenergo National Power Company CEO Volodymyr Kudrytskyi during a nationwide telethon, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to Kudrytskyi, the key components are the physical protection of energy objects, the restoration of generating facilities, power equipment and financing.

“We are actively preparing for the next winter period and making decisions that will allow us to protect our facilities. We are very grateful to the Ukrainian State Agency for Reconstruction and Infrastructure Development that we are cooperating with in order to protect the main infrastructure and critically important energy objects,” Kudrytskyi told.

In his words, the plan is to significantly strengthen the protection of energy facilities and make substations more impact-resistant before the next heating season starts.

In addition to the physical protection of energy objects, it is important to restore generating facilities, such as hydro and thermal power plants, and prepare combined heat and power plants for the winter period.

“It is also important to contract and bring to Ukraine a sufficient amount of equipment, which is necessary for the repair of grids and power plants. Additionally, it is essential to have funds to repair the damaged energy facilities, substations, and grids. These key components must be available in order for us to prepare and get through the next winter period without stress and massive power outages that we had last season,” Kudrytskyi concluded.

A reminder that Ukrenergo National Power Company signed an agreement with 15 ENTSO-E operators that would allow the company to seek assistance in unforeseen situations.
