Ukraine, U.S. working on a joint program in energy field

The energy agencies of Ukraine and the United States, together with the Net Zero World initiative, are preparing a cooperation program for the energy sector development.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Energy on Facebook, Ukrinform saw.

"The energy agencies of Ukraine and the United States, together with the Net Zero World initiative, are preparing a program of cooperation on decarbonization and sustainability of the energy sector of Ukraine," the statement reads.

According to the Deputy Minister of Energy, Yaroslav Demchenkov, Ukraine strives for a wider use of carbon-neutral energy sources and intends to gradually abandon coal in power generation , as well as reduce gas consumption, relying only on its own output, as well as production of biogas.

Another area of cooperation will be the development of power transmission systems and construction in Ukraine of small modular reactors.

As the Ministry of Energy emphasizes, Ukraine has a huge potential to become Europe’s energy hub.

"With our energy system integrated in ENTSO-E and expanded energy corridors, with available green and low-carbon generation in Ukraine, extensive gas and electricity networks and storage, we are confident that such a prospect is realistic," noted Demchenkov.

As reported earlier, on April 7, Minister of Energy German Galushchenko signed an executive document greenlighting the process of restoring electricity exports in condition of a generating capacity surplus.
