Gov't dismisses Economic Security Bureau’s director

On April 11, Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers decided to dismiss Vadym Melnyk from the post of Director of the Economic Security Bureau of Ukraine (ESBU).

Permanent Representative of the Cabinet of Ministers in the Verkhovna Rada Taras Melnychuk announced this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

"Dismissed: Vadym Melnyk from the position of ESBU's Director; Halyna Vasheka from the position of Deputy Head of the State Audit Service of Ukraine," Melnychuk wrote.

As reported, in August 2021, the Cabinet of Ministers appointed Vadym Melnyk, who headed the State Fiscal Service (SFS), as ESBU's Director.

Melnyk, a tax police colonel, had been heading the SFS since the end of 2020, having previously held various positions in the tax police. The Verkhovna Rada adopted the Law on ESBU on January 28, 2021.

On May 12, the Cabinet of Ministers established ESBU. It is tasked with countering offenses that infringe on the state's economic functioning.
